Stonehaven wraps around a sheltered harbour on the Aberdeenshire coast, with the dramatic ruin of Dunnottar Castle on the cliffs just to the south. It’s known for two things in particular: the Hogmanay fireballs ceremony, when swingers whirl blazing wire cages down the High Street and pitch them into the harbour, and a heated Art Deco open-air pool filled with seawater. The station is a short walk from the centre.
