Colosseum-like folly above Oban.
The banker John Stuart McCaig set local stonemasons to work through the winters of 1897 to 1902 building this Colosseum-like ring of granite on the hill above Oban — part family monument, part make-work scheme. He died before the grand interior was ever built, so it stands as an open shell, now a free public garden with cracking views over the bay to Kerrera, Lismore and Mull. A short, steep climb up from the town centre.
