Known to everyone as Nellie’s, the White Horse Inn is a gas-lit warren of little rooms in Beverley — bare boards, coal fires and low light, kept almost unchanged by Samuel Smith’s, who took it on in 1976. It’s a drinks-only survivor of a vanished kind of pub, splendid on a winter afternoon, and a short walk from the minster and the station.
