About as pared-back as a country pub gets, this front-parlour bar in a working East Devon farmhouse pours Otter ale straight from the cask to a tiny room of regulars, its historic interior listed on CAMRA’s national inventory. No frills, just character. It makes an honest full stop after a walk over nearby Hense Moor, or a climb of the Iron Age ramparts on Dumpdon Hill to the south.
