Out at the western tip of the British mainland, Ardnamurchan’s lighthouse is the only one in the UK built in the Egyptian style — a 36m pink granite tower designed by Alan Stevenson and first lit in 1849. The old keepers’ cottages now house a visitor centre and cafe. It’s a long drive out along the B8007 west of Kilchoan, but a cracking end-of-the-road spot.
