Caban Coch is the lowest of the Elan Valley reservoirs, built by Birmingham Corporation between 1893 and 1904 to send water east to the city. When it’s full the dam spills in a sheet across the whole width of the valley rather than through a side channel, which is the sight worth timing a visit for. It sits on the open-access Elan estate, with the visitor centre close by. Craig Goch Dam is the highest dam upstream.
