Rhayader bills itself as the outdoor capital of Mid Wales, a small market town on the upper Wye and the gateway to the Elan Valley reservoirs just west. Come for the walking and cycling, the dams strung up the valley, and the red kites that pile in each afternoon at Gigrin Farm on the edge of town.
