Wolterton Hall is a Georgian Palladian mansion built in the 1720s and 30s for Horatio Walpole, brother of Britain’s first prime minister, with parkland and a lake shaped with input from Charles Bridgeman. It’s still a private estate — the same Walpole family also holds Mannington Gardens a few miles west — and opens to the public only for occasional exhibitions, workshops and events rather than daily visiting, so check ahead for dates. Aylsham is about 6km south-east.
