St George's Gardens
Open accessfree to visit at any reasonable time
St George’s Gardens in Bloomsbury began life as a burial ground, laid out in 1714 to serve the parishes of St George’s Bloomsbury and St George the Martyr. Burials stopped in 1855, and thirty years later the grounds reopened as a public garden — old headstones still line the paths among mature trees. A lottery-funded restoration refreshed it in 2001. It’s free to walk through at any reasonable hour, close to the Regent’s Canal and a few minutes from King’s Cross station.
