Gray’s Inn is one of London’s four Inns of Court, and its garden — known simply as The Walks — has been open to Londoners since the 16th century, laid out under the direction of Francis Bacon among others. It’s one of the largest privately-owned green spaces in the city, a quiet break from Holborn’s traffic under mature plane trees. Free to walk in on weekdays, 12–2.30pm only; Chancery Lane is the nearest tube, a few minutes east.
