Sheffield General Cemetery opened in 1836 on a steep hillside above the Porter Brook, one of the first commercial landscape cemeteries in the country. Samuel Worth designed its Egyptian-and-Grecian gateways and chapels, cut into the hill are two rows of catacombs, and the Nonconformist chapel has been restored as an events space. It’s a Local Nature Reserve too, so ivy and mature trees have taken over many of the older graves. Free to enter, open every day, though the paths are steep in places. About 2km from Sheffield station.
