Rotherfield Park is a private estate near East Tisted, with a walled garden where, by long-standing tradition, the vegetables are planted according to the phases of the moon. There are glasshouses too — a dedicated peach house, a vinery — and a stretch of parkland that began life as a medieval deer park. The garden isn’t generally open, but it appears on the National Garden Scheme calendar for a couple of days a year. Selborne and Gilbert White’s old home, The Wakes, are a few kilometres east.
