The mile-long drive to the house runs straight through an Iron Age hillfort, its banks still ringing the woods on either side. Beyond it stands the Georgian home of the Molesworth-St Aubyns, who have held Pencarrow for close to 500 years and open it to visitors. The Victorian gardens have an Italian terrace, a lake and an avenue of monkey puzzle trees. It’s off the A389 north-west of Bodmin.
