Below the east end of St Petroc’s churchyard in Bodmin, down a short flight of steps, sits the roofless shell of a chapel dedicated to Thomas Becket. Licensed in 1377, it has a crypt beneath it, and the decorated window tracery is unusual for Cornwall. The walls are consolidated as a ruin rather than a working chapel — services happen in the parish church beside it. The churchyard is open, so you can wander down free at any reasonable hour; the steps get slippery in the wet. Restormel Castle is a short drive down the valley.
