Falkland Palace Garden
National iconRenaissance hunting palace of the Stewarts.
Behind Falkland Palace — the Stuart kings’ hunting lodge in the middle of the village — the National Trust for Scotland keeps a restored formal garden of long borders and clipped hedges. Its oddest treasure is the royal (real) tennis court, built in 1539 and reckoned the oldest still in use anywhere in the world. Open seasonally with an admission charge. Maspie Den and the Falkland Estate walks are right on the doorstep.
