Open to visitorsa National Trust place — check opening times and admission before you go
One of the earliest English landscape gardens, Claremont sits below Esher and is now run by the National Trust. Vanbrugh, Bridgeman, Kent and later Capability Brown all had a hand in it, and the centrepiece is a turf amphitheatre cut into the slope above a lake with an island pavilion. Open most of the year, paid entry (free to Trust members). Claygate station is about 2km east.
