Bushy Park is the second-largest of London’s Royal Parks, over 1,000 acres of grazed grassland and ancient trees running north from Hampton Court Palace. Free-roaming red and fallow deer graze along Christopher Wren’s mile-long Chestnut Avenue, which leads to the Grade I-listed Diana Fountain. The 18th-century Waterhouse Woodland Gardens, with their cascades and ponds, are worth a detour off the main avenue. Free to enter at any reasonable hour; Teddington station is about a kilometre away, and the Thames Path skirts the park’s western edge.
