Broadlands

Broadlands was reshaped by Capability Brown in the 1760s for the Palmerston family, its grounds running down to the River Test beside Romsey Abbey. It’s the private home of the Mountbatten family — Lord Louis Mountbatten lived here, and it’s hosted royal honeymoons — so opening is narrow: guided tours of the house’s ground floor run for two fortnights a year, around Easter and in late summer. The gardens and parkland stay closed even then.
