Romsey Abbey is a large Norman church that survived the Reformation because the town bought it from the Crown for £100 in 1544. It’s the biggest parish church in Hampshire, with a Saxon rood carved on an outside wall and an Anglo-Saxon crucifixion inside. Lord Mountbatten is buried here. Usually open; Romsey station is about 1km north-east.
