Substantial ruinsruined, but plenty survives above ground
There is very little of St Denys Priory left to look at. Henry I founded it for Augustinian canons around 1124, above the River Itchen north-east of the old town, and it was suppressed in 1536. One stretch of 14th-century wall with a pointed arch survives in a back garden off Priory Road, which is private; a second arch was moved in 1913 to the Tudor House garden. The Victorian church of St Denys nearby is a separate building of 1867, not the priory, though it holds some of its floor tiles and a stone coffin. St Denys station is a few minutes away.
