Bide-a-Wee is a two-acre garden made in and around a disused sandstone quarry near Netherwitton, which gives it the sort of levels most cottage gardens never get — ponds and damp hollows below, dry sunny banks above. It’s the kind of place built up slowly by hand over decades, and rewards a slow wander. Opening is seasonal and limited, so check the days before setting off; Morpeth station is about 8km south-east.
