Almost perfectly preserved for a building of around 1130, Brinkburn Priory is an Augustinian church standing alone in a wooded bend of the River Coquet. It was heavily restored in the 1860s after centuries as a ruin, though most of the medieval masonry survived the work. English Heritage looks after it now, with an entry charge; it lies a few miles downstream from Rothbury. Acklington station is about 9km east.
