St Andrew’s keeps a complete Anglo-Saxon tower, one of very few left standing in the county, on a near-solitary site in quiet farmland north of Belsay. The rest is largely medieval, low and broad beneath that old tower. It’s usually open, and easily paired with a visit to the hall and its quarry garden nearby.
