Come in late April for the tulips — around 150,000 of them — or from June for the roses, which run to a couple of thousand varieties. These five densely planted acres of terraces, knot garden and herb beds drop to riverside walks beside Malmesbury Abbey. Open seasonally with an admission charge; Kemble station is about 11km to the north-east.
