St Nicholas’ stands just below the ruins of Abbotsbury’s old abbey, a 15th-century church with box pews and a decorated plaster ceiling of 1638 over the chancel. Two bullet holes in the canopy above the pulpit are said to date from a Civil War skirmish here in 1644. Usually open by day. Upwey station is about 9km to the east.
