St James sits right beside Arlington Court, the long-time home of the Chichester family on Exmoor’s southern edge. Sir John Palmer Bruce Chichester had the church largely rebuilt in 1844, keeping the medieval tower, and it holds Chichester monuments and memorial glass. Easily paired with a visit to the house and gardens. Usually open in daylight hours; Barnstaple station is about 10km to the south-west.
