Freshwater West is a vast Atlantic beach of sand and dunes facing the open sea — big waves, big skies, and a favourite with surfers. It has stood in as a film location more than once. The catch is the water: strong currents and rip tides make it dangerous for swimming, and there’s no lifeguard, so it’s one to surf with care or simply walk rather than paddle. Milford Haven station is about 6km north.
