West Linton was once a stop on the drove roads bringing cattle down from the Highlands, and it keeps a village feel on the western edge of the Pentland Hills. Its big date is the Whipman Play, a week of festivities each June with roots in an old carters’ society. There’s good walking straight up into the hills from the village.
