Trawsfynydd stands on high moorland above its reservoir, best known as the home of Hedd Wyn — the shepherd-poet killed on the Western Front in 1917, weeks before he won the National Eisteddfod’s chair, which was draped in black in his absence. His hill farm, Yr Ysgwrn, is open to visitors as a memorial.
