Strathpeffer grew up as a Victorian spa, and it still looks the part: pastel villas and hotels gathered around a restored pump room where visitors once came to take the sulphur waters. It sits under the bulk of Ben Wyvis, which makes it a handy start for that hill. Conon Bridge is the working station, about 7km to the east.
