Porthgain is a tiny former industrial harbour on the north coast, where slate and crushed roadstone were once shipped out. The brick hoppers and ruined quarry buildings still stand above the quay as a scheduled monument, and the Sloop Inn by the water dates from 1743 and feeds walkers coming off the coast path. Just west is the flooded slate quarry known as the Blue Lagoon at Abereiddi. It’s an oddly striking spot, industrial ruin set against sea cliffs.
