Come to Padstow on May Day for the Obby Oss, when the town fills for one of the country’s oldest surviving folk customs, a hobby-horse paraded through the streets to drum and accordion. The rest of the year it’s a busy harbour on the Camel estuary, known for its fishing quay and a run of Rick Stein restaurants. The church of St Petroc stands above the town. Padstow lost its railway long ago, so most arrive by road.
