Exmoor harbour village linked by cliff railway.
Lynmouth sits at the bottom of a deep wooded gorge where the East and West Lyn rivers meet the sea, under some of the highest cliffs on the Exmoor coast. In 1952 those same rivers flooded catastrophically after a storm on the moor, destroying much of the village and killing 34 people; it was rebuilt around the little harbour. A water-powered cliff railway climbs to Lynton on the clifftop above.
