Lochmaddy (Loch nam Madadh) is North Uist’s main village and its ferry port, linked by CalMac to Uig on Skye. It’s a small place around a fine natural harbour, with an arts centre and museum — Taigh Chearsabhagh — that’s well worth a look, plus a hotel and a shop. The A867 heads west from here across the island to the causeway chain.
