King’s Lynn grew rich as a Hanseatic port on the Great Ouse, trading with the Baltic, and much of that survives along the quays: merchant houses, warehouses and the only Hanse building left in England. Two medieval guildhalls stand near the water, one of them, St George’s, the largest to survive in the country and still used as a theatre. The station is on the edge of the old town.
