Dense concentration of standing stones and cairns.
Kilmartin is a small village at the centre of Kilmartin Glen, which holds one of the densest concentrations of prehistoric monuments anywhere in Scotland — a linear cemetery of burial cairns, standing stones, stone circles and carved rock, hundreds of sites within a few miles. The excellent Kilmartin Museum in the village makes sense of it all and is the best place to start. It’s on the A816 north of Lochgilphead, an easy drive from Oban.
