A cluster of thatched cottages runs down to the wooded Helford River at Helford, with a tidal creek and a summer passenger ferry across to Helford Passage. The river’s hidden inlets include Frenchman’s Creek, which gave du Maurier the title of her smuggling novel. The lanes in are very narrow; there is a car park above the village to save the tight last stretch.
