Banchory sits where the Water of Feugh joins the Dee, at the point where the coast gives way to Royal Deeside. Just south of town the Falls of Feugh tumble under a footbridge that’s a well-known spot to watch salmon leaping upriver in autumn. Stonehaven and the coast are about 19km south-east; Aberdeen is an easy run to the east.
