Llyn Tegid, which Bala sits at the head of, is the largest natural lake in Wales — nearly four miles of open water ringed by the Aran, Arenig and Berwyn hills. The town is essentially one long main street, a base for sailing on the lake and walking the ranges around it, with a narrow-gauge railway running along the shore.
