Southend Pier runs 1.33 miles out into the Thames Estuary, which makes it the longest pleasure pier in the world. It’s a fair walk to the end, so a little electric railway carries you there and back, out past the anglers to the lifeboat station and café at the seaward tip. Open daily for a charge; Southend Central station is about half a kilometre inland from the shore end.
