The Museum of Cider fills the old Bulmers factory in Hereford, where the firm’s cider making began in the 1880s. Its best rooms are underground: the champagne cider cellars, dug in 1889, where the méthode champenoise used for fizz was first applied to cider in 1905. Racks of bottles, a cooper’s workshop and a vat house tell the rest of the story. There’s an admission charge, and Hereford station is about 1.5km to the north-east.
