Britain’s last cable-operated street tramway hauls its Edwardian carriages up through the streets of Llandudno and on to the summit of the Great Orme, having opened in stages in 1902 and 1903. Cars run in two sections, dragged up the gradients by a moving cable set into the road. It’s a seasonal service, with a visitor centre and big views over the bay at the top. Llandudno station is under a kilometre from the lower terminus.
