College Valley & Hethpool
Local highlightIf you’re after real solitude, College Valley curls deep into the northern Cheviots from the tiny hamlet of Hethpool and sees few visitors — partly because vehicle access is capped at a limited number of permits a day. On foot it’s always open. Walkers head up from here toward The Cheviot and the Border ridge. There are no shops or facilities, so bring everything you need and leave the car behind if you can’t get a permit.
