Am Politician is Eriskay’s island pub, named after the SS Politician — the cargo ship whose whisky wreck inspired Whisky Galore. Mementoes salvaged from the wreck are kept inside. Eriskay is joined to South Uist by a causeway, so you can drive out, with the small Barra ferry leaving from the island’s south end. Up the hill, St Michael’s church is worth a look for its unusual bell.
