Cadair Berwyn is the high point of the Berwyn range, a broad spread of heather moorland in north-east Wales, reaching 832m. Most of these hills are rounded and grassy, but the summit is topped by a short rocky crest that stands out among its gentler neighbours Moel Sych and the North Top, both close by. On the eastern side the ground drops into a steep cwm (a Welsh valley hollowed out by ice) holding the small lake of Llyn Lluncaws, and lower down the same slope the Pistyll Rhaeadr falls spill over a tall cliff. The Berwyns stay quiet, off to the east of Eryri and its crowds, so the ridge is often yours alone.
