Butt of Lewis Lighthouse
Local highlightLighthouse on Lewis's storm-battered tip.
The lighthouse at the Butt of Lewis is an oddity — one of the few in Scotland left as bare, unpainted red brick. David Stevenson built it in 1862 on the cliffs at the very northern tip of Lewis, a genuinely wild, storm-battered spot. It’s at the end of the A857 in Ness, with a car park and clifftop paths, and the cliffs and open Atlantic are the real draw.
