The Grange is one of England’s boldest Greek Revival buildings, a country house wrapped by architect William Wilkins in the early 1800s with a temple-fronted portico modelled on the Parthenon. English Heritage keeps the grounds open daily and free of charge for exterior viewing, though the inside is closed except on rare Heritage Open Days. It shuts early on some summer evenings when The Grange Festival opera takes over the lawns. The River Itchen runs close by, and New Alresford is a short drive south-east.
