Chesterfield marked Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee by opening this park in 1893, on land bought as Maynard’s Meadows. There’s a boating lake, a bandstand, and a conservatory brought here from Chatsworth House in the 1920s. Derbyshire County Cricket Club has played here on and off since 1898, on a pitch laid out the year after the park opened. Free to enter, any day. Bolsover Castle and the Peak District both lie a short drive west.
