High on the cliffs above the Salcombe estuary, Overbeck’s is a sheltered, near-frost-free garden packed with subtropical planting — palms, agaves and tender exotics from around the world. It takes its name from Otto Overbeck, an eccentric inventor who left the house and garden to the National Trust in the 1930s; the house still holds his curios and collections. Paid entry, and the estuary views come free.
