Haughton House Country Park sits on the banks of the Don just outside Alford, a wooded former estate with formal grounds, a walled garden and easy riverside paths. There’s plenty of room for a picnic and a wander, and it’s free and open. Insch station is about 12km to the north-east, but you’ll want a car for this one.
